We are known to seek out experts, conduct surveys, benchmark other organizations, mine databases, and vigorously test assumptions to make sure we have the appropriate knowledge to make tough decisions. This approach is equally applied to M&A decisions as it is to product design trade studies.
Corporate & Organizational Strategy
Developing an effective strategy for both corporations and government entities involves recognizing the relationship of the organizational parent, evaluating the value of various ownership scenarios and analyzing new business opportunities.
Strategy development includes elements such as strategic vector definition, scenario modeling, strategic decision analysis, portfolio evaluation and planning, investment, acquisition, and divestiture analysis.
Lone Star AerospaceÂ’s approach is based on sound business principles, management inclusion, diversity of opinion, and subject matter expertise to achieve a fact based, consensus driven strategy capable of implementation.
Business Unit Strategy
Business unit strategy is a natural flow down of the corporate strategy or vision. Where corporate strategy entails architecting a vision for a group or portfolio of businesses, unit strategy creates a roadmap enabling a business unit to maximize its value going forward. It is imperative that the business unit strategy flow down and enhance the overall corporate strategy and that both elements are effectively communicated to the organization in order to create cohesiveness and a singularity of purpose.
Lone Star Aerospace assists clients in understanding the value of business holdings and their contribution to the overall corporation including latent potential. Our analysis enables the development of strategic plans supporting elements such as profitability improvement, growth, new market evaluation, product portfolio evaluation, and new business development.
Product Line or Program Strategy
Competitive advantage can be difficult to achieve in a cutthroat global marketplace. Customer focused operations, from concept to post sale service, are critical in establishing a dominant market position. In addition, the method for serving customers is changing from product-centric offerings to solutions oriented around identifying and solving customer points of pain.
These changes can be particularly difficult for organizations and often require new perspectives to overcome internal barriers. Lone Star Aerospace has provided significant support to clients focused on customer aligned organizations, product development and evolution, market and channel strategy, and profit enhancement.
Creating alignment with customers requires clearly understanding how each element in the chain influences the product, service, or solution and which elements result in an improvement in value.
Decision Support
TodayÂ’s business decisions are complex, with high stakes and great uncertainty. Given this environment, a disciplined approach to evaluate important decisions is essential. Development of alternatives including those involving a wide variety of options, are needed to break away from standard business models.
A strategic decision analysis approach encourages the evaluation of multiple such alternatives and quantitatively assesses the impact of uncertainty so that organizations have significant relevant insight before making important decisions.
Benchmarking
Lone Star has a reputation for providing accurate, insightful benchmarking for the defense and aerospace community. Our benchmarks have been used for a number of programs and customers in government and industry.
Clients benefit from our continuing investment in objective data collection. Our analysts have a commitment to collect information on the performance of products, processes, and companies. We don't wait for a client to ask - we collect new benchmarking data almost every day.
Because of our ongoing investment, we are in a position to provide rapid responses to requests for benchmarking, and for Strategic Assessments.
Areas We Have Benchmarked:
Another basis for successful benchmarking is well chosen data partners. We work with firms who have proven themselves as industry leaders in delivering data and data bases that are accurate, up to date, and objective.
Our approach to benchmarking is based on using proven, well understood processes. We sometimes use the Baldridge National Quality Award framework, for example. Using well documented processes, which are in the public domain provides a larger data set, transparency, and amounts to an open standard, giving our clients more confidence in benchmarking findings, and more options in how to use them.
We invest in tools to use benchmarking data. Our tool set provides a means to assess what benchmarks are likely to be most important for our clients, and to assess benchmarks against a wide range of criteria.
Merger & Acquisition Support
Lone StarÂ’s merger & acquisition capability is focused on providing high quality, comprehensive, and strategically focused advisory services to buyers or sellers in the Aerospace and Defense industry.
Our core team and advisors have significant M&A experience across the complete life cycle of mergers and acquisitions. Because of our commitment to benchmarking, we can provide insight to best-in-class alternatives, improving the accuracy of competitive understanding.
Lone Star provides system simulation services and products including flight simulations.
In some cases, we have partnered with other firms, doing turn key development which took advantage of our rapid prototyping capability. We have been used by some of the largest firms in the world for outsourced innovation, design, and product development.
Our design support on behalf of customers is essentially the same set of processes we use for our own programs.
Technology Development
Lone Star's team of experienced professionals can develop technology quickly. When a client has only a rough idea of what a product or solution should be, there is no substitute for people who have developed and delivered technology products before. Some clients have a problem to solve and no idea if a practical solution is even possible. Lone Star's team is comfortable working to create technology architecture to solve difficult constrained problems.
In some cases, we have helped to create both a new product technology and the intellectual property rights strategy to protect it.
For some clients, we have used our design support and rapid prototyping capabilities to create technology demonstrators, moving from pre-TRL 0 to TRL 4 or 5. Clients tell us that our teams have been able to deliver these results at speed and costs that were a fraction of their other alternatives.
We have conducted technology development efforts involving optical systems, microwave systems, RFID, and guided weapons, among others, including our own programs.
Rapid Prototyping
Lone Star can deliver prototypes as an extension of technology development and design support. We have relationships with a number of quick reaction fabrication organizations, and have a demonstrated capacity to bring products into reality quickly. Our process is integrated with our simulation and modeling tools. As a result, we have been able to move quickly from modeling a problem to operating a prototype or technology demonstrator.
We can provide rapid development of models using stereo lithography. We have developed prototypes using COTS components, and built sensors and apertures from raw stock when necessary. We believe in leveraging existing technology, so it's not unusual to see a technology demonstrator based on subsystems of existing systems.
We also have the ability to do Software in the Loop (SIL) and Hardware in the Loop (HWIL) testing of prototypes for a range of products including sensors and guided weapons.
Our clients sometimes rely on us to integrate COTS devices and products into defense and aerospace products. In particular, we have been successful when incorporating RFID and mobile telephony devices and technology. We have supported efforts involving all types of RFID, and mobile technologies including AMPS, GSM, GPRS, CDMA, and 3G.
We have developed prototype products with embedded processing, complex network interfaces, optical systems, microwave systems, and guided weapons, among others. We have been successful in working with the FCC, UL and other authorities to obtain the necessary permits, licenses, and certifications needed to construct and operate new systems.
